Building Immunity, Preventing Disease
Essential Protection for a Vibrant Life
Young animals are like kids—it’s a never-ending job to keep them safe and happy. Pet vaccinations are a relatively inexpensive but very important way to protect his or her health. In addition to preventing many life-threatening illnesses, vaccinations can prevent diseases prevalent in wildlife and those that can be passed to humans. It’s important to administer vaccinations when pets are puppies and kittens because their young immune systems are still developing and need protection to stay healthy.
Smart Prevention That Makes Sense
Young pets are just like kids – keeping them safe and healthy is a full-time commitment. Vaccinating your pet is a straightforward and cost-effective way to protect their wellbeing.
Beyond preventing life-threatening illnesses, vaccines help control diseases found in wildlife and those transmissible to humans. It’s crucial to start when pets are puppies and kittens because their developing immune systems need extra support. While any medical treatment carries minimal risk, the protection vaccines provide far outweighs potential side effects. Reactions are uncommon and typically mild when they occur. Vaccinating also keeps our Dallas community healthier by controlling contagious diseases.
Core vaccines are recommended—and often required by law—for most pets: Rabies (dogs and cats), DA2PPV for dogs (Distemper, Hepatitis, Adenovirus 2, Parvo, Parainfluenza), and FVRCP for cats (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia).
We recommend Bordetella and canine influenza vaccines for dogs who visit dog parks, boarding facilities, or socialize with other dogs. Based on exposure risk, we may suggest leptospirosis protection.
Even indoor pets need vaccinations. They can encounter pathogens through windows, visiting pets, or on your clothes. Your Campbell Village veterinarian will recommend which vaccines make sense based on your pet’s age, health, and lifestyle.
Vaccination Titers
Titers are blood tests that measure your pet’s immunity to diseases like parvovirus, distemper, and rabies. Instead of automatic boosters, titers determine if your pet’s already protected. For seniors, pets with chronic conditions, or those with vaccine reactions, titers offer a safe alternative to unnecessary vaccinations. While not every vaccine has a reliable titer test, results provide valuable insight into your pet’s immune status and help customize their protection plan. Our team will discuss whether titers are right for your pet, balancing protection with safety.
